The Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport airport has chalked up another first.
Cathay Pacific will commence regular international freight services reducing transit times and costs for trade focussed businesses in Toowoomba and the surrounding region.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester welcomed the announcement, citing the importance of effective freight transportation to the rapidly growing Asian region.
“The Australian Government will continue to work with Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport on the provision of the necessary border agency resources to support regular freight services,” Mr Chester said.
Wellcamp Airport is included in the Federal Government’s ‘regional package’ The package provides for no restrictions on capacity entitlements which will help Wellcamp grow in the future he said.
“In the past year, Australian international passenger traffic increased by 7.5 percent and almost one million tonnes of international air freight was carried over the same period.”
“Unlocking additional aviation capacity provides our regional airports, including Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, the opportunity to connect with international airline networks and more effectively serve their local markets.”
